**What is Arnuity Ellipta?**

Arnuity Ellipta is a prescription medication designed to manage the symptoms of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It can be utilized on its own or in combination with other drugs. This medication falls under the category of Respiratory Inhalant Combos.

### How does it work?

Also known by its active ingredient, Fluticasone, Arnuity Ellipta is effective in reducing and preventing asthma symptoms in both children and adults. When inhaled, Fluticasone works to lower inflammation in your lungs, which helps manage asthma and prevents asthma attacks. However, it is crucial to note that this medication is not a rescue inhaler and will not alleviate an asthma attack that has already started; instead, it should be used regularly to reduce the frequency and severity of such episodes.

### How fast does it work?

Arnuity Ellipta is not meant to be used as a rescue inhaler. Its primary function is to gradually reduce swelling and inflammation in the airways of the lungs. It may take up to two weeks to experience the full benefits of this treatment.

### Dosage

Arnuity Ellipta is available in several dosage forms:

  • 30 blisters of 50mcg
  • 14 blisters of 100mcg
  • 30 blisters of 100mcg
  • 14 blisters of 200mcg
  • 30 blisters of 200mcg

**For individuals 12 years and older**: One oral puff or inhalation daily. The starting dose is generally 100 mcg, and your healthcare provider may increase it to 200 mcg if your asthma remains poorly controlled after two weeks.

**For children aged five to eleven**: One oral inhalation of 50 mcg daily.

### What adverse effects can Arnuity Ellipta cause?

Like any medication, Arnuity Ellipta comes with potential side effects. Here are some of the more common ones:

  • Common cold
  • Bronchitis (inflammation of the airways)
  • Upper respiratory tract infection (viral infection of the nose, throat, and airways)
  • Headache
  • Flu

Should you experience any of the following severe side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately:

  • Asthma attacks requiring emergency intervention (including status asthmaticus, which is a continuous and severe asthma attack)
  • Severe allergic reactions

### Can you abruptly quit taking Arnuity Ellipta?

Arnuity Ellipta, like other steroid-containing medications, should not be discontinued suddenly unless advised by your doctor. A gradual reduction is recommended to avoid withdrawal symptoms such as headache, nausea, and dizziness.

### Do I have to rinse my mouth after using Arnuity Ellipta?

Yes, it is essential to rinse your mouth after using Arnuity Ellipta. This medication is an inhaled steroid, and without rinsing, you may increase your risk of developing oral thrush, a fungal infection. Rinsing with water after each use can help mitigate this risk.
