Uses of Timolol
Ophthalmic Timolol is primarily used to treat glaucoma, especially open-angle glaucoma, and ocular hypertension. By reducing intraocular pressure, Timolol helps to prevent the progressive loss of vision. It is also occasionally prescribed for other conditions, such as infantile hemangiomas.
Precautions and Warnings
Before using Timolol:
- Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to Timolol, other beta-blockers, or any other medications.

Timolol is available as a liquid solution and an extended-release gel-forming solution. For eye drops, apply one drop in the affected eye(s) once or twice daily, as directed by your physician. For the gel-forming solution, use it once daily. Follow these application steps:
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- If using the gel-forming solution, invert the bottle and shake it once.
- Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instill the drop.
- Close your eyes for 2-3 minutes while applying gentle pressure to the tear duct.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, and securely recap the bottle after use.
