Uses of Flagyl Vaginal Cream
Flagyl Vaginal Cream is used to treat vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis (an infection caused from too much of certain bacteria in the vagina).
Flagyl Vaginal Cream is in a class of medications called nitroimidazole antimicrobials. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Precautions and Warnings
You should not use metronidazole vaginal if you are allergic to metronidazole, secnidazole, or tinidazole, or if:
- you are allergic to parabens or polyethylene glycol;
- you recently drank alcohol; or
- you took disulfiram (Antabuse) within the past 14 days.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- nerve problems;
- a seizure; or
- peripheral vascular disease such as Raynaud’s syndrome.
It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
You should not breastfeed within 48 hours after using metronidazole. If you use a breast pump during this time, throw out any milk you collect. Do not feed it to your baby.
Metronidazole vaginal is not approved for use in children younger than 12 years old, or in girls who have not begun having menstrual periods.
Dosage
This medication is typically used twice a day. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Generally, a treatment with this medication lasts several days. Use it for the entire time prescribed in order to achieve the medication’s full benefit.
