Description

Tradjenta, known generically as Linagliptin and also referred to as Tradjenta 5 mg, is an oral medication specifically developed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This drug contains a DPP-4 inhibitor, which is a member of the gliptin class of antidiabetic medications. Tradjenta is used in conjunction with a balanced diet and regular exercise to aid in the control of blood sugar levels in adults with diabetes. It is not recommended for use alone or combined with other blood glucose-lowering medications. Moreover, Tradjenta is not suitable for the treatment of type 1 diabetes nor for the prevention of diabetic ketoacidosis when used with other antidiabetic drugs.

How does Tradjenta work?

Tradjenta is part of a class of antidiabetic drugs known as DPP-4 inhibitors. These medications assist in managing insulin levels, especially post-meal when blood glucose levels are at their peak, and help lower blood sugar levels produced by the body. By inhibiting the breakdown of certain hormones that play a role in food metabolism and insulin regulation, Tradjenta enhances the release of insulin from the pancreas’ beta cells while delaying the release of glucagon, thereby preventing further increases in blood glucose levels. When combined with a nutritious diet and regular physical activity, Tradjenta can support the body’s production of insulin and decrease blood sugar levels.
